Everquest - Kingdom of Stone by PatrickMcEvoy Everquest - Kingdom of Stone by PatrickMcEvoy
*update* Bigger scan! Still not nearly full-size, but hopefully a bit more detail will come through.:)

***

2003 Sony Online entertainment

This was the first piece I did for Sony Online, several years back. It's a 3-fold cover piece, so the far left side is meant to be the front cover, and the middle and right fold out.

Unfortunately, this project was canceled and the picture was never used by Sony! However I did still get paid, so that was good at least... If any of you listen to the Ninja Mountain Podcast, I mentioned this one in one episode as my first big freelance piece.

This picture is copyright 2003 Sony Online Entertainment. They are a very large company so please do not use it or they may sue you. :)

I see that this particular post in a few years old, but as a long time Everquest player and fan, Entophy--level capped Necromancer--originally, Inoruk Server, I have to say..Great Job! Feronia Vie, to the Gobbies, to the Troll! You did the Game Art Justice.

Thanks! As I recall, those were Goblins (they had several different colors, so the blue and brown ones are all the same race too).

Awsome work. Im a huge EQ fan, wish this expansion would have been released. Keith Parkinsons covers was what got me into doing art in the first place so its always cool to see Eq stuff that i havent seen before by other artists :)

I finally broke down and sold it to a collector last year. I must admit that at 48" wide it's pretty impressive! Thanks.

Oh man, this brings back memories! It makes me quite nostalgic for my EQ days. It's a pity they never used the image, it's very good! You even incorporated the old Epic 1.0 weapons. :D

Cool - yeah they wanted it to look as much like Parkinson as possible with the same characters/weapons etc. Of course I wasn't as good as him, but I gave it a shot!

Was he the person who normally drew the cover/booklet art? I rather like your rendition of Firiona Vie. She looks like a real battle mage and not some floozy, as some of the covers made her seem.

Yeah, Keith Parkinson (sadly no longer with us) established the awesome look of the Everquest world with his cover art for several versions of the game.

I really liked painting Firiona. Sony actually sent me the real costume to use on my model for the piece!! What a blast that was.

I remember the very first cover art of EQ, and how amazed I was with it. Of course, the game itself was like nothing I'd ever seen too. heh You almost make me want to play again! :XD:

No kidding? That's serious dedication there!
