Game of Thrones: Wight by PatrickMcEvoy Game of Thrones: Wight by PatrickMcEvoy
@2005 Fantasy Flight Games

Way back in late 2003 I began doing cards for Fantasy Flight's "Game of Thrones" CCG. In honor of the new series on HBO I thought I'd post a few of these. Some of the many cards I did in those sets are still among my favorites.

Here's a Wight, one of the creepy undead created by the Others. As with most of the cards I do, this was done primarily in Photoshop with a bit of Painter thrown in for flavor.

Thank you! You know, it's funny...

When I got the assignment, I had not read the books at all. So I did what any good illustrator would do - I went out to buy the books, then I found a site online that had a concordance of the character's appearances in each chapter. THEN, I just read the introductory chapter to each character, and drew the most interesting scene from there.

So, as it happened, I read most of the first two books entirely out of order! XD And you know, it was pretty good that way. Sort of like "Memento"...

And thanks again!

lol! hey, that IS a great technique--MEMENTO has to be one of the coolest, most brilliant films ever!

Yes! So much agreed. You know --- I only just saw Memento two weeks ago! I am WAY behind the times! (And Rosebud is a sled...!)

Thank you! I don't usually do a subtle palette like this, but when I do I really enjoy it. Glad you liked it.

Thank you - can you believe I didn't have any reference for the face? One of those pictures that just popped out on its own in a few hours.
